Subject: 20277/Appl-Jt/ISTEA/BatteryPlace Date: Thu, 16 Sep 1993 12:29:10 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 20277 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO SUBMIT A JOINT APPLICATION WITH HAMILTON COUNTY FOR INTERMODAL SURFACE TRANSPORTATION EFFICIENCY ACT (ISTEA) FUNDS FOR THE BATTERY PLACE PHASE OF THE TENNESSEE RIVERPARK. WHEREAS, the Tennessee Riverpark trail system (the Riverwalk) is an enormous success; and, WHEREAS, the Riverwalk benefits our community in many ways including preserving and enhancing the beauty of our riverfront; and, WHEREAS, the trail system provides recreation and assists alternative means of transportation; and, WHEREAS, the project has a positive effect on economic development and makes our community a more attractive place to reside; and, WHEREAS, grant support is available through the Tennessee Department of Transportation from Federal ISTEA funds; and, WHEREAS, matching funds are available from previously budgeted funds; and, WHEREAS, in addition to funds available from private donations, matching requirements will be equally shared by Hamilton County; 0C NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That the Mayor be and is hereby authorized to submit a joint application with Hamilton County for $1 million in ISTEA funds for the Battery Place Phase of the Tennessee Riverpark; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That matching funds in the amount of $125,000 are hereby assured as a sign of the City of Chattanooga's support and commitment to this project.
